Five appointments to book before year-end
When you start pulling out your hidden scarves and sweaters from the back of your closet, you know winter is coming. Before you know it, it will be the end of another year. If your insurance plan runs on a calendar year, make sure you’ve used your insurance to your best needs before the end of the year. If you haven’t already booked your appointments for treatment that are covered under your extended health benefits, now is a good time to schedule appointments before your benefits run out.
1) Dental Cleaning
It is important to get your teeth cleaned once to twice a year (and more frequently if you are experiencing problems). Most benefits cover a cleaning with fluoride every nine months. If you haven’t had a cleaning this year, make sure you schedule one year so you can show off your pearly whites at this years holiday parties. Try to book soon as dentists can get pretty booked up in December.
2) Eye Exam
If you are starting to feel like your vision is changing, it is a good idea to get an eye exam. Most insurance companies cover an eye exam every two years. Some may even cover the cost of contact lenses or glasses. If you use contact lenses or glasses, you may want to get your eyes checked.
3) Massage
Massage therapy is a great way to relieve muscle pain, tension and de-stress. Daily household tasks and work duties can cause pain and stiffness in the body. Massage therapy can help relieve this, and bring about a sense of calm and peace. If your benefits cover massage, make sure you book some me-time for yourself and pamper yourself!
4) Orthotics and Orthopaedic Shoes
If there is one thing you frequently use that has a big impact on your health, its your shoes. Wearing the right shoes (especially if you are lacking the proper support that may be causing pain) is very important. If you are covered for orthotics under your extended benefits and have foot pain or feel discomfort, make sure you get it checked out. You may be entitled to orthotics or orthopaedic shoes that can provide the support you need.
5) Insurance
If you don’t have extended health coverage, you should seriously consider getting a plan for yourself and family. Extended health care benefits cover for treatment for preventative treatment such as dental cleaning and massage therapy so that you wont suffer from more severe health concerns in the future.
